History
The History department at Oaklands has a young and vibrant staff. We fully recognise the need for active learning within the curriculum and cater for the varying learning styles of the individual. Our excellent examination results at both GCSE (78% Pass rate) and A level (100% pass rate) have enabled the department to embrace the integration of ICT into the curriculum. The department is staffed by fully qualified History teachers with varying specialisms that complement and enrich the national curriculum.
Extra-Curricular Opportunites
The History department recognises and embraces the many learning opportunities available to students outside the boundaries of the classroom and as such offer a variety of activities including:
- Imperial War museum
- Historic Portsmouth
- Fort Nelson
- Visit to the Civil war battle site of Cheriton to complement the year 8 curriculum.
- Year 11 are taken to view ‘Hitler on trial’. Produced with the help of the exam boards, in this valuable exercise students first what a production by actors.
