History at KS4

Many of our students opt to study History at the end of Year 9 and indeed many stay on with us at ‘A’ level. At GCSE level Oaklands History students study the OCR Modern World Syllabus with a controlled period of coursework.

This course explores major developments in International Relations in the first half of the Twentieth Century and three in-depth studies of regional history.

Year 10

  • How far was British Society changed 1890-1918?  This will be assessed a 1 hour 30 minute exam at the end of Year 10.  The paper is worth 30% of the GCSE grade.
  • Vietnam 1940-1975 -  This will be examined as a Controlled Assessment in Year 10.  Students will have to produce one approximately 2000 word assessment worth 25% of the GCSE grade.  The exact question will be issued annually by the exam board.

Year 11

  • International Relations 1919-1945
  •  The USA 1919-1941

These two topics will be assessed in one 2 hour paper at the end of Year 11.  The paper is worth 45%.

 Entry Level Certificate History

As well as the GCSE course there is also an Entry Level course.  This has a similar syllabus to GCSE but is completely coursework assessed.
