Mobile Phones/Smart Watches
Students at Oaklands must have mobile phones switched off and out of site between 8.50am and 3.35pm. This includes break and lunchtimes. This is one of our ‘golden rules’ and all students are reminded of this expectation regularly. If a mobile phone is seen, a member of staff will ask the student to switch it off and hand it over. The student is expected to comply; to not do so is defiance. The phone will then be taken to main reception and parents / carers will be notified and agree a time to come and collect it.
Parents understandably want their children to have access to their phones so we would ask that you support us by making sure you communicate messages to your child before the school day; that you do not call them or message them during the school day and that if you do have an urgent message, you phone student services who can deliver that message at the appropriate time during the school day. Once the bell goes at 3.35pm, students are allowed to switch their phones on should they need to communicate with you about their journey home
Smart watches are not permitted at Oaklands.
