Students at Oaklands Catholic School, have achieved once again outstanding GCSE results this year.

The majority of subjects have now moved to the new 9-1 grading  under GCSE reforms making it difficult to compare year this year with last.   16 Students achieved 8 or more grade 8 or above. Amongst these were Laura Vahey who achieved 10 grade 9s and Penelope Batty who achieved 9 grade 9s.

Headteacher Matthew Quinn said: “  All our students deserve significant praise and  congratulations on their outstanding performance this year. Their tenacity has paid dividends; the results  are a tribute to their commitment and hard work. I would also like to recognise the commitment and dedication of the  teachers and support staff who have worked with our students. The results also speak volumes of the school’s positive relationship with parents, who have nurtured and encouraged students throughout their time at Oaklands .”

Mr Quinn continued: “It is important that we capture student success today, many youngsters have been successful despite significant challenges, there are many personal triumphs across the ability range. Good and outstanding schools are more than just examination results.  For example,  significant numbers of Year 11 students give of their time to raise money for charity, work with the community, take on leadership responsibilities and embrace the extracurricular life of the school. Our commitment to developing the whole person within our Catholic  ethos helps to make these achievements possible.

The majority of Oaklands students will be joining the Oaklands  Sixth Form in September to begin A Levels.

A Level Results

Another high set  of ‘A’ level examination results is today being celebrated by students and staff at Oaklands school. Nine students obtained straight ‘A’ grades or higher in 3 or 4 subjects. Sixteen students achieved 2 ‘A’ grades or better. 100% of students achieved a pass at ‘A’ Level.

They are a credit to their hard work and that of our very talented and committed teachers. The care and support students receive here is second to none, even if that means some tough love along the way. The school continues to justify its strong reputation at Advanced Level. It is fantastic to see the progress made by many of our students from entry into Year 7 through to Year 13.The high grade profile achieved by our students will mean that the majority should gain entry to the university of their choice or employment and training”
