Who are we?
The Oaklands Parent Association (OPA) are a group of enthusiastic parents and staff who get together on a regular basis and whose purpose is to raise funds and organise fun events to provide those extras that will benefit your children and enhance their time at Oaklands. We also aim to foster relationships between staff and parents and others associated with the school and fully support the school in all that they do.
The OPA consists of four elected officers who are ably supported by a very dedicated group of around 15-20 elected parents.
The current OPA officers are as follows:
- Lorraine Sutton Chairperson
- Rebecca Power Vice-Chairperson
- Maria Wilkes Secretary
- James Tickell Treasurer

What we do
We organise lots of fun events throughout the year such as quiz nights and music evenings. Some of our future and past events are detailed in the ‘events’ page.
-
Always present at school Parent Evenings and school concerts serving refreshments or selling raffle tickets.
-
Instrumental in the planning and development of the new school uniform.
-
Support the school’s Healthy Schools Initiative and aim to provide healthy alternatives on our refreshments table.
-
In the past we have raised enough funds to pay for a mini bus and floodlights for the new sports area.
-
Made donations to avariety of initiatives/projects within the school – e.g. horticultural department, the English department and the ‘Pit Stop’ pasta bar, which has been granted £800 for a refurbishment scheme.
-
Funded a drugs awareness event that was presented to year 10 pupils during the day in PDC lessons and parents during the evening. This was a huge success.
Every pound we raise helps! Any support you as parents can give will make a real difference!
How you can help?
There are many ways which you can get involved in school life and help us to raise funds for the school: -
The ‘A-Team’ – As well as our elected committee members, we are also fortunate in that we can rely on a good network of parent helpers who help us at various functions. This is our ‘A-Team’. They do this by helping with raffles and serving refreshments. If you wish be involved in events without the commitment of having to attend regular meetings, then please leave your details at the school main office. Our A-Team coordinator, Deborah Creasy will get back to you as soon as possible.
50/50 Club – Why not join our 50/50 club? This is a fun way you can help the school and win some money along the way. The idea is simple; you pay £1 a month for a number, which is yours for however long you want it. Every month a number is drawn and depending on how many entrants there are for that month, you will receive 50% of funds received for that month. The other 50% will go to the school. Currently, the cash payout each month is around £100. The more people take part, the bigger the cash payout! Amanda Peach is the coordinator of this and can be contacted through the main school office 02392 25214 or in person.
